Submissions Guidelines
Reflections
1. Fiction and artwork on any aspect of Kung Fu: The Legend Continues is
welcomed. Original Kung Fu stories accepted
only if they tie at least 50% to TLC. Other crossovers at the discretion of the
editors.
2. Editorial comments are as follows:
- Stories must have a plot. Vignettes are acceptable as long as there's a reason for
them, but even a vignette has a beginning, a middle and an end.
- Submissions must have been at least proofread for spelling and grammar. We're
very
happy to work with you, but hope that you'd want to send us your best work initially.
Poor spelling and grammar can bury a good story, making it hard for us to find
it.
- Please give your story a title. If you can't be
bothered to title your work, we probably can't be bothered to read it.
- It's not necessary that you see the characters the same way we do, or the same
way
other writers do. If you have your own interpretation of the characters, and can
convince us of its validity within the context of your story, then your interpretation is
perfectly valid and we'll be happy to consider your story.
Likes:
- Peter & Pop (preferably together, but separately is acceptable)
- Anything with Blaisdell and the Blaisdell family
- Stories which bring out the conflict between East and West
Jeanne's also partial to Simms stories, and Jan likes stories which show growth on
Peter's part.
Cautions:
- H/C--it's been overdone. If you do it, try and do it so that it brings out something
new and interesting. Poor Peter's been bashed enough.
- "Evil Oriental Bad Guy Cults" (tm)--also overdone
- Adult situations and violence at the discretion of the editor. No slash.
- Since the co-editor co-writes the "Child of the Moving Tide" stories, she tends to
be very picky about young Peter stories.
(note--stories which contain any or all of the above (except slash) will still be
considered if they're terrific stories we'd much
rather be intrigued by a story which breaks all the rules than be bored by one that
doesn't)
3. Any length story is acceptable, from vignettes through novellas.
4. Stories WILL be edited for content and construction. We strongly believe that
we
only grow and improve as writers
through editing. If you are not willing to have your stories edited, please submit them
elsewhere. Final decision on story
edits rests with the author. Final decision on publication rests with the editors.
5. Submissions deadline: For Reflections VIII, July 31, 2003. Publication
date: November 2003 (Eclecticon)
- Please enclose a SASE, and if you have an e-mail address, include that as well.
Please submit in hard copy, but let us
know whether you'll be able to send a diskette or e-mail attachment, and in what format.
- Artists, please send a photocopied sample of your work, and indicate if you
are willing/able to do illustrations.
