I called to him and he awoke, pledging to serve his king, a man he'd never met. Nor did I know him, except for what I'd been told. His brother had spoken of him often, of his valor and his gentle nature, with words tinged with love and pride. Gandalf told me of his wisdom, Pippin of his courage, Samwise of his honor.

Without knowing me, he offered me his allegiance. How could I offer less to him?
