History

The KF:TLC Script Collection was founded in September of 1996. During the previous two years at various fannish events (KF:TLCon, Visions, Toronto Trek, FuFest, ChrisFest, etc.), a number of scripts for episodes of Kung Fu: The Legend Continues became available to fans through charitable activities--raffles, auctions, etc. Some scripts had been given to fans as gifts. Others had been purchased through one of several Hollywood Script services.

Some fans thought it would be nice if copies of all the available scripts were brought together in a central place--a place where fans would be able to find the scripts they wanted to see, without having to scour the fandom looking to see who had a particular script. Jeanne DeVore began gathering these scripts together in September of 1996, and the fans responded generously and willingly. The Script Collection opened for business on October 1, 1996.

Because a majority of these scripts had been acquired through charitable activities, the fans wanted to be able to continue the charity. The "Fuie" charity of choice has been the American and Canadian Cancer Societies in memory of Robert Lansing. Mr. Lansing, of course, portrayed Police Captain Paul Blaisdell, Peter Caine's foster father, during the first two seasons of Kung Fu: The Legend Continues. Mr. Lansing lost his long battle with cancer in October of 1994. His final screen appearance, in "Retribution," aired only a month following Mr. Lansing's death. The original airings of the episode were dedicated to Robert Lansing's memory. Since the Script Collection is administered in the US, it is too difficult to be able to support both the American and Canadian Cancer Societies, so the American Cancer Society was chosen.

In the months since the Script Collection's inception, fans from all over the world have not only ordered copies of scripts, but have contributed new scripts. The Collection has grown from its initial offering of approximately 80 scripts from 60 episodes to its current size of over 140 scripts representing all 88 aired episodes, plus the unaired "reunion" movie, "Dreamscape". Many fans have also donated money above and beyond the recommended donation amount per script. A frequent comment is: "I lost a loved one to cancer, too. Please accept this donation. In this way, not only can I remember Robert Lansing, I can remember my loved one as well." In the two years since its inception, the Script Collection has raised over $3,600 to aid cancer research. The exact total is listed under Donation News.

We are very proud of the KF:TLC Script Collection. Proud that we can offer such a comprehensive resource to the fans and anyone who loves Kung Fu: The Legend Continues. And proud that through this offering, we are able to do a good thing--do our small part to help in the fight against cancer. Even our little donations add up to big donations, and some day, these donations may be the key to curing this terrible disease.

And that would be the most fitting tribute to Robert Lansing of all.
